My Statement

"Let me emphatically say that I am not anti-Facebook (Fleecebook), anti-smart phone, anti-Microsoft, anti-Apple, anti-Google or anti-Internet. I do believe, though, that the consumer is being ripped off of his privacy, identity and purchase history. We are being herded into a Facebook corner where what we "Like" and where we go physically and on the net will be scrutinized and sold numerous times to actually corrode and erode our culture while tempting us only with convenience, high tech and flashing video screens. The unsuspecting consumers need to be aware..." - Gary Lapman

Patience[sic] in the Hospital

Today was a long day that I'd rather not repeat.  Today my wife had surgery to remove her gallbladder.  While it is done laparoscopically through three small holes, I still don't like hospitals.  Now let me say that Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital is probably the nicest and cleanest one that I have ever been to.  The staff bends over backwards to be attentive and is compassionate to the nth degree.  Still I don't like hospitals.  I guess because they have sick people and people that die.  Two of my kids were born in this place and those days will always be ingrained in my memory as the most fascinating days of my life.  Still, the smell of sick, aged and decrepit strangers emanate from this place.  It is a smell that is only located in my head, not my nose.  It is very uncomfortable.  I waited for my wife from 6:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with a pretty high anxiety level which kept me from even sitting still for very long.  Some people don't attend funerals.  I don't go into hospitals unless I REALLY need to.
