My Statement

"Let me emphatically say that I am not anti-Facebook (Fleecebook), anti-smart phone, anti-Microsoft, anti-Apple, anti-Google or anti-Internet. I do believe, though, that the consumer is being ripped off of his privacy, identity and purchase history. We are being herded into a Facebook corner where what we "Like" and where we go physically and on the net will be scrutinized and sold numerous times to actually corrode and erode our culture while tempting us only with convenience, high tech and flashing video screens. The unsuspecting consumers need to be aware..." - Gary Lapman

Almost Expired

They should be ashamed!  The Postal Service makes (apparently) no efforts to track the origin of the pictures that are put on stamps, as this week it was determined that the picture that they used for Lady Liberty was NOT of the statue in New York harbor, but the imitation in Las Vegas.  I guess the Postal Service is an example of an imitation gubmint entity!  Let us have tremendous confidence in the people that run this gubmint entity- NOT!
Erring on the side of being conservative, I don't pay much heed to dates on foods or drugs.  Most of the time, the drugs have been used up in-time for the expiration dates.  If you had decided to be thrifty and buy the COSTCO size of aspirin, or Tylenol-equivalent, or Ibuprofen, of course, it would really depend on how many aches and pains you have had since you bought it.  I always figure that drugs start to lose their efficacy as they approach and pass the use-by date.  Food, on the other hand has dates that say how long it can be for sale on the shelf in the store.  Then there is another date.  Let's say that the date is on bread.  If I ALWAYS toast the bread, I really don't care how hard it is, but I don't like that pesky green mold.  When I see the mold, out it goes- but I continue to eat it as toast until then.  My wife, though, tends to eschew anything that is EVEN close to that date- either side.  So how about milk?  If it tastes okay, why not continue to use it ?  If it sours before or after the date, give it to Chuck!
I is so unfortunate, but I am at the mercy of, of POLLEN!  Having taken one decongestant pill this morning that granted me only momentary composure, I have taken yet another, in the hope of relatively normal existence between sneezes....

My Next Life Backwards
I want to live my next life backwards!

You start out dead and get that out of the way right off the bat.

Then, you wake up in a nursing home feeling better every day.

When you are kicked out of the home for being too healthy, you spend several years enjoying your
retirement and collecting benefit checks.

When you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day.

You work 40 years or so, getting younger every day until pretty soon you're too young to work.

So then, you go to high school: play sports, date, drink, and party.

As you get even younger, you become a kid again.

You go to elementary school, play, and have no responsibilities.

In a few years, you become a baby and everyone runs themselves ragged keeping you happy.

You spend your last 9 months floating peacefully in luxury, spa-like conditions: central heating, room service on tap.

Until finally... you finish off as an orgasm.

I rest my case.

A minister was seated next to a cowboy on a flight to Texas. After the plane was airborne, drink orders were taken. The cowboy asked for a whiskey and soda, which was brought and placed before him. The flight attendant then asked the minister if he would like a drink.

He replied in disgust, "I'd rather be savagely raped by brazen whores than let liquor touch my lips."

The cowboy then handed his drink back to the attendant and said, "Me too. I didn't know we had a choice."

Thank goodness it is finally over...

So the week is finally over and I feel a great relief.  It was hectic at work, and hectic at home. Next Monday my car goes into the shop for work to replace the back bump, as I was rear-ended last week.  It is utterly amazing how much progress we have made with regard to automobile design.  Used to be that cars were so heavy and their bumpers were so massive that all the energy from an accident was transferred to the occupants.  Now the y make the cars a bit lighter, but the bumpers are designed to crush and not return to their original shape.  The energy of the impact is therefore absorbed.  Unfortunately, instead of a scratch on the bumper, it has to totally be replaced- at someone's great expense.  This fellow that hit me was not interested in even seeing the damage (or course thinking that is was very minor), so he is going to be very surprised when his insurance gets the bill for a replacement bumper and rental car.  It should be in the neighborhood of $1300-1500.  Shocking!

A man was being tailgated by a stressed out woman on a busy boulevard.

Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman had to slam on her brakes. As her tires screeched to a sudden stop, she hit the horn. Then she started screaming in frustration over her missed chance to get through the intersection, dropping her cell phone and makeup in the process. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her half-open window. She stopped her cursing and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer.

The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, finger printed, photographed, and placed in a holding cell. After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said: "I'm very sorry for your experience. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'What Would Jesus Do?' bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian Fish emblem on the trunk."

"Obviously I made a mistake, but for some reason I assumed you had stolen the car."

Half of Facebook for $1000

Remember in the movie Social Network that Zuckerberg was constantly borrowing money for server equipment or other items necessary to get Facebook up and running?  We really don't know how true that part of the movie was, or if it is, whether those loans were ever paid back or not.  If they didn't get repaid, what is that loan worth today?  This guy in New York claims that he owns a portion of Facebook because of one of those loans.  Zuckerberg better have a receipt that he paid this guy back or the company is in deep doo-doo.
Sometimes, when I haven't received many jokes from friends, I have to peruse the discussion forums or joke sites.  Unfortunately, most them are pretty old.  It seems like most people are so preoccupied with the news that they aren't as funny as they have been...

A man walks into a bar with his dog and orders two glasses of whiskey. He proposes a toast and both he and his dog empty their glasses.

The girl behind the bar is surprised and asks, "Can your dog perform other tricks?"

"But of course", the man answers, "he can even gratify a woman."

Anxious to know more, the girl leads the man and the dog into a little room above the bar. She undresses, and full of expectation, she lies down on the bed.

The dog looks at her and does nothing.

"It's always the same thing with you!", the man then shouts at the dog, "Okay, I'll show you how to do this one last time!"

Bought and Paid For

Why is it that politicians continue to raise taxes to cover bad decisions on their part?  Why is it that a multi-billion dollar company, General Electric, pays no income taxes?  The politicians are in bed with the corporations and they get what they want AND we have to pay for it. Sounds great for them, but it really doesn't sound fair.  Even though life isn't fair on many areas, EVERYONE (including corporations) should pay their fair share.  Unfortunately they have been deciding what is fair.  I suppose it IS cheaper to pay for a politician than it is to pay for taxes. When is Obama going to penalize companies that cut jobs in favor of outsourcing overseas ? When is Obama going to reward companies for creating new jobs here ?  What companies OWN Obama ?  Doesn't it seem reasonable, since we saved Wall Street, that they should kick-in on our salvation ?  Would it be reasonable to assume that Wall Street owns Obama and Congress ?

Fun With Words
My mother wears hearing-aids. When Pavarotti performed at Lady Diana's funeral, she remarked, "Why are they letting him sing after he chased her through the tunnel?"

At the end of a long and probably very boring meal (at a formal dinner), (British Prime Minister) Macmillan turned to Madame de Gaulle and asked politely what she was looking forward to in her retirement.
Quick as a flash the elderly lady replied: "A penis."
Macmillan had been trained all his life never to appear shocked, but even he was a bit taken aback. After drawling out a series of polite platitudes, "Well, I can see your point of view," "Don't have much time for that sort of thing nowadays" It gradually dawned on him to his intense relief that what the old girl had actually said was "happiness."

Yay for LA and the Space Shuttle Endeavour

Well, I certainly can tell you that the day after birthdays aren't as bad.  I felt REALLY old yesterday and worthless.  Today I am re-energized and ready for battle with youngsters.... Bring it on!

That is going to be one fantastic spectacle when the shuttle lands atop the 747 at Long Beach Airport, and then the shuttle gets transported via truck and trailer to the California Science Center in Los Angeles.  The traffic will be backed up for many miles as this is NOT going to be easy...

The Birthday Blues

To me.
4/11/11.  Today is my birthday.  I feel less important than I have in a long time.  It is probably a normal  feeling- now all three of my kids have concluded that they can ignore me, after all I REALLY am an old fart now.

Someday, they will be deciding my disposition and before that, what home I get to live in and whether my bedpan is heated before I get to use it...  Oh hell, I'm not dead yet, and I still got a few years to make 'em pay!

I guess I just have the Birthday Blues...
The Singularity is coming, and in the mean time the "machine" is using us to make it happen!

So it appears as thought Zuckerberg has won again in the courts and the Winklevoss twins will have to settle for the $65 million that was the original settlement.  Perhaps now they will "Unfriend" Zuckerberg on their Facebook pages....
I've always wondered what would happen if you found a way to make gold from lead, but the instructions were to difficult to follow.  I am trying to use a new software application at work but STRUGGLING to get what the instructions are telling me.  To justify their existence, the implementers have obfuscated and made the instructions ambiguous enough to cause heaving and eventual emesis.  I sure hope it works well after it is finally configured...

The real truth they don't want you to know
Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart only good for so many beats, and that it... Don't waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speeding up heart not make you live longer; it like saying you extend life of car by driving faster. Want to live longer? Take nap.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that mean they take water out of fruity bit so you get even more of goodness that way. Beer also made of grain. Bottom up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have body and you have fat, your ratio one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No pain...good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU NOT LISTENING! Food are fried these day in vegetable oil. In fact, they permeated by it. How could getting more vegetable be bad for you?!?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger. You should only be doing sit-up if you want bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy?!? HEL-LO-O!! Cocoa bean! Another vegetable! It best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming good for your figure, explain whale to me..

Q: Is getting in shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is shape!
Well... I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!"

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans..

5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

A couple of women were playing golf one sunny Saturday morning. The first of the twosome teed off and watched in horror as her ball headed directly toward a foursome of men playing the next
hole. Indeed, the ball hit one of the men and he immediately clasped his hands together at his crotch, fell to the ground and proceeded to roll around in evident agony.

The woman rushed down to the man and immediately began to apologize. She said,

"Please allow me to help. I'm a physical therapist and I know I could relieve your pain if you'd allow me", she said earnestly.

"Umph, ooh, nnoo, I'll be all right, I'll be fine in a minute." he replied breathlessly as he remained in the fetal position still clasping his hands together at his crotch.

But she persisted, and he finally allowed her to help him. She gently took his hands away and laid them to the side, she loosened his pants, and put her hands inside and began to massage him.

She then asked him: "How does that feel?

He replied: "It feels great, but my thumb still hurts like hell."

Our Fault

Yesterday was a fun day planned with my family, basically for my birthday which is tomorrow.  We went to Oxy to pick up Tori and then to Lacy Park to have a picnic.  Then it was on to Huntington Gardens in Pasadena.  We visited a number of gardens but I really enjoyed the Desert Gardens.  The cacti were wonderful.  My favorites were well displayed.  The Stapelia were everywhere.  One was in bloom and the flower had captured a fly.  The sun was peaking between clouds and caught the Golden Barrels just right to really show off their size and color.  Later we went to see the art displays in the mansion.  The big attractions were Blue Boy and Pinky.  They were worth seeing as one never knows if we'll ever get back here.  We had thought we had been here almost thirty years ago, but the docent explained to us that we were really thinking of the Arboretum in Arcadia. [That was where Fantasy Island was filmed.]

The day continued without incident until we went to an early dinner at Buca DeBeppo's.  We has a heated discussion at the table about smart phones, privacy and "down time".  It was decided that technology has become part of the younger generation's lives, while we, the Boomers, were the enablers.  No amount of questions regarding the ginormous values places on Google, Facebook and Twitter and why, could convince the youngster's that it was based on what they could steal from the users and sell to the advertisers.  All I can say is that the Social Bubble will burst; I believe it and you all should as well.

So does anyone have a definitive explanation about the over-valuing of the social and search sites ? When I bring this up to my kids, it is though I know nothing.  They tell me that they have not ever known anything except the technologies that they have available today.  Unfortunately, what they don't realize is that those technologies come with a price.  NOBODY would put that much effort and money into a project to access and steal copies of your private data and catalog your habits UNLESS there was WAY MORE money to be made!!!  It is OUR FAULT that the people of today (younger than Boomers) depend so heavily on technologies.  After all, we ram a new one down their throat as often as we can- and then shift the paradigms to cover it.

A father walks into a restaurant with his young son. He gives the young boy 3 nickels to play with to keep him occupied.

Suddenly, the boy starts choking, going blue in the face.
The father realizes the boy has swallowed the nickels and starts slapping him on the back. The boy coughs up 2 of the nickels, but keeps choking.

Looking at his son, the father is panicking, shouting for help.
A well-dressed, attractive, and serious looking woman in a blue business suit is sitting at the coffee bar reading a newspaper and sipping a cup of coffee.

At the sound of the commotion, she looks up, puts her coffee cup down, neatly folds the newspaper and places it on the counter, gets up from her seat and makes her way, unhurried, across the restaurant. Reaching the boy, the woman carefully drops his pants; takes hold of the boy's' “privates” and starts to squeeze and twist, gently at first and then ever so firmly.

After a few seconds the boy convulses violently and coughs up the last nickel, which the woman deftly catches in her free hand. Releasing the boy's testicles, the woman hands the nickel to the father and walks back to her seat at the coffee bar without saying a word.

As soon as he is sure that his son has suffered no ill effects, the father rushes over to the woman and starts thanking her saying, "I've never seen anybody do anything like that before, it was fantastic. Are you a doctor?”

"No," the woman replied, "I'm with Internal Revenue Service".

Excerpts From "A Cat's Guide To Human Beings"

1. Introduction: Why Do We Need Humans?

So you've decided to get yourself a human being. In doing so,
you've joined the millions of other cats who have acquired these
strange and often frustrating creatures. There will be any number
of times, during the course of your association with humans, when
you will wonder why you have bothered to grace them with your
presence.

What's so great about humans, anyway? Why not just hang around
with other cats? Our greatest philosophers have struggled with
this question for centuries, but the answer is actually rather
simple:

THEY HAVE OPPOSABLE THUMBS.

Which makes them the perfect tools for such tasks as opening
doors, getting the lids off of cat food cans, changing television
stations and other activities that we, despite our other obvious
advantages, find difficult to do ourselves. True, chimps,
orangutans and lemurs also have opposable thumbs, but they are
nowhere as easy to train.

2. How And When to Get Your Human's Attention

Humans often erroneously assume that there are other, more
important activities than taking care of your immediate needs,
such as conducting business, spending time with their families or
even sleeping.

Though this is dreadfully inconvenient, you can make this work to
your advantage by pestering your human at the moment it is the
busiest. It is usually so flustered that it will do whatever you
want it to do, just to get you out of its hair. Not
coincidentally, human teenagers follow this same practice.

Here are some tried and true methods of getting your human to do
what you want:

Sitting on paper: An oldie but a goodie. If a human has paper in
front of it, chances are good it's something they assume is more
important than you. They will often offer you a snack to lure you
away. Establish your supremacy over this wood pulp product at
every opportunity. This practice also works well with computer
keyboards, remote controls, car keys and small children.

Waking your human at odd hours: A cat's "golden time" is between
3:30 and 4:30 in the morning. If you paw at your human's sleeping
face during this time, you have a better than even chance that it
will get up and, in an incoherent haze, do exactly what you want.
You may actually have to scratch deep sleepers to get their
attention; remember to vary the scratch site to keep the human
from getting suspicious.

3. Punishing Your Human Being

Sometimes, despite your best training efforts, your human will
stubbornly resist bending to your whim. In these extreme
circumstances, you may have to punish your human. Obvious
punishments, such as scratching furniture or eating household
plants, are likely to backfire; the unsophisticated humans are
likely to misinterpret the activities and then try to discipline
YOU. Instead, we offer these subtle but nonetheless effective
alternatives:

· Use the cat box during an important formal dinner.

· Stare impassively at your human while it is attempting a
romantic interlude.

· Stand over an important piece of electronic equipment and feign
a hairball attack.

· After your human has watched a particularly disturbing horror
film, stand by the hall closet and then slowly back away, hissing
and yowling.

· While your human is sleeping, lie on its face.

4. Rewarding Your Human: Should Your Gift Still Be Alive?

The cat world is divided over the etiquette of presenting humans
with the thoughtful gift of a recently disemboweled animal. Some
believe that humans prefer these gifts already dead, while others
maintain that humans enjoy a slowly expiring cricket or rodent
just as much as we do, given their jumpy and playful movements in
picking the creatures up after they've been presented.

After much consideration of the human psyche, we recommend the
following: cold blooded animals (large insects, frogs, lizards,
garden snakes and the occasional earthworm) should be presented
dead, while warm blooded animals (birds, rodents, your neighbor's
Pomeranian) are better still living. When you see the expression
on your human's face, you'll know it's worth it.

5. How Long Should You Keep Your Human?

You are only obligated to your human for one of your lives. The
other eight are up to you. We recommend mixing and matching,
though in the end, most humans (at least the ones that are worth
living with) are pretty much the same. But what do you expect?
They're humans, after all. Opposable thumbs will only take you so
far.

Rear-ended

So who has the best retirement and health benefits in the world, our Congress and President, of course.  By serving only one term, they are covered for life.  There is absolutely no chance that they would give that entitlement up to experience the same benefits (?) that the average working stiff gets.  Also, when the gubmint has to shut down because Congress is NOT doing their jobs, who gets rewarded, Congress, of course.  They will get paid whether the gubmint is open for business, or not.

Yesterday evening, my wife dropped off her car to get new "tars" (tires) and a "lining" (alignment).  I picked her up and then headed home. On the offramp from the freeway, I got into the right lane so I could turn to go home.  There was still a car in front of me and the light was red.  The car turned right and I inched up so that I could see the traffic.  The light was still red, but I couldn't see because the car in the next lane was so far forward, so I inched up a bit more.  Just then the car behind me plowed into me.  Meanwhile the light changed to green and I proceeded to turn right and safely pull off the road.  The perpetrator followed my example.  I got out of the car to survey the damages and then checked out the perp's vehicle.  I proceeded to his window and suggested that we exchange pertinent information such as insurance and driver's license.  He said, "Is there any damage?".  I invited him to come outside the car and look at it, but he declined.  He dug them out and I wrote all the information down, as well as his car's license number.  I asked him to wait a minute and I would write down all of my information for him.  He declined and said he was in a hurry and sped off.  I was blown away at the guy's attitude.  My wife thought that he might be inebriated, but I couldn't tell- especially since he wouldn't get out of his car.  His car had a heavy steel-tube brush bar on the front which actually caused the damage.  There wasn't any damage to his vehicle.  I guess it is way more to expect "common" courtesy from him after an accident that he caused.  I would also expect that he isn't a COURTEOUS drive one the road either.

Idol was shocking last night.  There are only nine contestants left.  They are all great. They are not all great at everything they do, though.  Depending on their strengths, they appeal to different types of watchers.  More importantly, the actual voters that keep contestants on the show, or not, are usually the teeny-bop set [i.e. young girls] that vote numerous times each week.  I never vote, but I understand that when you put this task in the wrong hands that you will not like the results.  Perhaps leaving it TOTALLY up to the voting audience is the wrong choice.  Not making the totals public is probably a good idea.  There shouldn't be any hard feelings.  On the other hand, this is a talent contest.  A singing contest.  If a guy singer is judged by his good looks or sex appeal, then he will get more votes from the teeny-bop set.  Girl singers have numerous problems competing.  Unfortunately, the worst is getting the teeny-bop vote...
Blondes
During a recent password audit, it was found that a blonde was using the following password:

When asked why such a big password, she said that it had to be at least 8 characters long.

"Why does Sea World have a seafood restaurant? I'm halfway through my fish burger and I realize, Oh my God... I could be eating a slow learner." - Lynda Montgomery

An Italian, an Irishman and a Chinese fellow are hired at a construction site.

The foreman points to a huge pile of sand and says to the Italian guy, "You're in charge of sweeping."

To the Irishman he says "You're in charge of shoveling."

To the Chinese guy, "You're in charge of supplies."

He then says, "Now, I have to leave for a little while. I expect you guys to make a dent in that there pile." So the foreman goes away for a couple hours, but when he returns the pile of sand is untouched.

He says to the Italian: "Why didn't you sweep any of it?"

The Italian replies in a heavy accent, "I no gotta broom, an' you tella me dat de Chinese'a guy supposa bringa da supplies, but he disappear and I no finda him."

Then the foreman turns to the Irishman and asks why he didn't shovel.

The Irishman replies in his heavy brogue, "Aye, that ye did, but I couldn't get meself a shovel. Ye left the Chinese fella in charge of supplies, but I couldn't fin' him."

The foreman is really angry now, and storms off looking for the Chinese guy. He can't find him anywhere and is getting angrier by the minute.

Just then, the Chinese guy springs out from behind the pile of sand and yells...

"Supplies!!"

WARNING: OLDER MEN SCAM
Women often receive warnings about protecting themselves at the mall and in dark parking lots, etc. This is the first warning I have seen for men. I wanted to pass it on in case you haven't heard about it.
A 'heads up'... for those men who may be regular customers at Lowe's, Home Depot, Costco, and even Wal-Mart. This one caught me totally by surprise. Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends.

Here's how the scam works:
Two nice-looking, college-aged girls will come over to your car or truck as you are packing your purchases into your vehicle. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts (It's impossible not to look). When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' but instead ask for a ride to McDonald's. You agree and they climb into the vehicle. On the way, they start undressing. Then one of them starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet.

I had my wallet stolen October 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 24th, & 29th. Also November 1st & 4th, twice on the 8th, 16th, 23rd, 26th & 27th, and very likely again this upcoming weekend.

So tell your friends to be careful. What a horrible way to take advantage of us older men. Warn your friends to be vigilant. Wal-Mart has wallets on sale for $2.99 each. I found even cheaper ones for $.99 at the dollar store and bought them out in three of their stores.

Also, you never get to eat at McDonald's. I've already lost 11 pounds just running back and forth from Lowe's, to Home Depot, to Costco, Etc.

Please, send this on to all the older men that you know and warn them to be on the lookout for this scam. (The best times are just before lunch and around 4:30 in the afternoon.)

Public Toilets- Use At Your Own RIsk

Haven't heard very much about April Fool's pranks, but this one is not very funny. Someone doused a toilet seat in the men's room of a Maryland Walmart with superglue.  Unfortunately, the first user did not look-before-leaping and managed to glue the seat onto his buttocks.  Getting carried out of Walmart by the fire department is no way to go...  While I won't go into a Walmart anyway for other reasons, there is no limit to what you can catch on a toilet seat, particularly without first using a "lobster bib".

Definition of Outdoor Barbecuing - It's the only type of cooking a "real" man will do:

When a man volunteers to do such cooking, the following chain of events is put into motion.

· The woman goes to the store.

· The woman fixes the salad, vegetables, and dessert.

· The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils, and takes it to the man, who is lounging beside the grill, drinking a beer.

· The man places the meat on the grill.

· The woman goes inside to set the table and check the vegetables.

· The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is burning.

· The man takes the meat off the grill and hands it to the woman.

· The woman prepares the plates and brings them to the table.

· After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

· The man asks the woman how she enjoyed "her night off."

· And, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's
just no pleasing some women.

Taxidermy
Stuffed deer heads on walls are bad enough, but it’s worse when you see them wearing dark glasses, having streamers around their necks and a hat on their antlers. Because then you know they were enjoying themselves at a party when they were shot.

Orville Smith, a store manager for Best Buy in Augusta, Georgia, told police he observed a male customer, later identified as Tyrone Jackson of Augusta, on surveillance cameras putting a laptop computer under his jacket... When confronted the man became irate, knocked down an employee, drew a knife and ran for the door.
Outside on the sidewalk were four Marines collecting toys for the "Toys for Tots" program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of the Marines, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back. The injury did not appear to be severe.
After police and an ambulance arrived at the scene, Cpl. Duggan was transported for treatment for his stab wound.
The subject, Tyrone Jackson, was also transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken leg, several missing teeth, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions, assorted lacerations, a broken nose and a broken jaw...injuries he sustained “when he slipped and fell off of the curb after stabbing Cpl. Duggan.”
Now that was a well written Police report.

A kindergarten teacher was teaching her class about the 5 senses. Everybody was doing great on all of them except for taste. She brought in multiple candies, flavors such as: cherry, grape, orange and honey. The children could guess all of them but seemed to be stumped on the honey flavored candy. She gave them a hint, "this is something your mommy might call your daddy at home" than one of the kids yelled out, "Eww, quick spit it out its an asshole!!!"

"Scent By The Gods"

Would we notice if the gubmint takes a hiatusWhy is it important? There would be furloughs of some government workers.  Some federal contracts would be issued stop-work orders.  Essential life-threatening services would continue.  The post office would continue (until they are broke on their own...]. The national parks and monuments would close.  It would seem that we don't want the entrance fees [which should support the people collecting them].  Threats of life-as-we-know-it discontinuing are over exaggerations.  In the event of a national catastrophe, emergency matters would take over.  It really doesn't appear to be a big deal to the average Joe....

It seems as though one particular kind of food is invading kitchens and menus all over.  I really like almost anything made with Pork, as Emeril Lagasse says, "Pork fat rules...".  I kind of chuckle when I see bacon added to sub sandwiches and burgers and even ice cream sundaes, but this is a bit TOO far. A Parisian butcher, of all people, convinced a perfumery in France to create a cologne that is bacon flavored.  The bottle shows a caricature of a woman that morphs into a strip of bacon.  Wouldn't this smell make me hungry rather than attract me sexually (what most perfumes and colognes are aiming to do)?
I'm starting to get that feeling of vulnerability and mortality as my next birthday approaches in five more days.  I will be the big 6-0 on that day and even if I tell myself that 6-0 is the new 5-0, it doesn't make me feel any better.  I don't seem to be any different, either- except my memory isn't as good as it was.  I still can't remember names, but faces are burned into my brain.  I manage to get around okay, usually without aches and pains.  I can't eat all the things I used to like raw onions and really hot peppers.  I still like the taste, but they don't like me.  I also don't get sick very often and tend not to treat it as sickness- it doesn't slow me down very much.  I was hoping many days ago to be retired when I got to this age, but now with the bubbles all burst and my investments under water, I have employment until I'm laid-off or reach the mandatory age to look forward to. C'est La Vie...

One night a burglar is trying to break into a house. He's sneaking across the lawn when he hears a voice - "Jesus is watching you!" He jumps, turns around, but he doesn't see anything. So he starts creeping across the lawn again. "Jesus is watching you!" He hears it again. So now the burglar is really looking around, and he sees a parrot in a cage by the side of the house. He says to the parrot, "Did you say that?" The parrot answers "Yes I did." So the burglar asks, "What's your name?" The parrot says "Clarence." The burglar says "What kind of stupid idiot would name his parrot Clarence?" The parrot laughs and says, "The same stupid idiot that named his Rottweiler 'Jesus' "

Airline Safety
Occasionally, airline attendants make an effort to make the "in-flight safety lecture" and their other anouncements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:

There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out of this airplane..."

After landing: "Thank you for flying Delta Business Express. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride."

As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Washington National, a lone voice came over the loudspeaker: "Whoa, big fella. WHOA!"

After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms in Memphis, a flight attendant on a Northwest flight announced: "Please take care when opening the overhead compartments because, after a landing like that, sure as hell everything has shifted."

From a Southwest Airlines employee.... "Welcome aboard Southwest Flight XXX to YYY. To operate your seatbelt, insert the metal tab into the buckle, and pull tight. It works just like every other seatbelt, and if you don't know how to operate one, you probably shouldn't be out in public unsupervised.

In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face.

If you have a small child traveling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are traveling with two or more small children, decide now which one you love more.

Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, we'll but try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember, nobody loves you, or your money, more than Southwest Airlines."

"Your seat cushions can be used for flotation, and in the event of an emergency water landing, please take them with our compliments."

Once on a Southwest flight, the pilot said, "We've reached our cruising altitude now, and I'm turning off the seat belt sign. I'm switching to autopilot, too, so I can come back there and visit with all of you for the rest of the flight."

"Should the cabin lose pressure, oxygen masks will drop from the overhead area. Please place the bag over your own mouth and nose before assisting children or adults acting like children."

"As you exit the plane, make sure to gather all of your belongings. Anything left behind will be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses."

"Last one off the plane must clean it."

And from the pilot during his welcome message: "We are pleased to have some of the best flight attendants in the industry... Unfortunately, none of them are on this flight...!"

Heard on Southwest Airlines just after a very hard landing in Salt Lake City: The flight attendant came on the intercom and said, "That was quite a bump and I know what ya'll are thinking. I'm here to tell you it wasn't the airline's fault, it wasn't the pilot's fault, it wasn't the flight attendants' fault...it was the asphalt!"

Overheard on an American Airlines flight into Amarillo, Texas, on a particularly windy and bumpy day. During the final approach the Captain was really having to fight it. After an extremely hard landing, the Flight Attendant came on the PA and announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Amarillo. Please remain in your seats with your seatbelts fastened while the Captain taxis what's left of our airplane to the gate!"

Another flight attendant's comment on a less than perfect landing: "We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal."

An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a "Thanks for flying XYZ airline." He said that in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally evryone had gotten off except for this little old lady walking with a cane. She said, "Sonny, mind if I ask you a question?" "Why no Ma'am," said the pilot, "what is it?" The little old lady said, "Did we land or were we shot down?"

After a real crusher of a landing in Phoenix, the Flight Attendant came on with, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Capt. Crash and the Crew have brought the aircraft to a screeching halt against the gate. And, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced, we'll open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal."

Part of a flight attendant's arrival announcement: "We'd like to thank you folks for flying with us today. And, the next time you get the insane urge to go zipping through the skies in a pressurized metal tube, we hope you'll think of us here at US Airways."

Day of Reckoning

The day of reckoning has come for app makers and what information they take from smart phones without the user's knowledge.  These companies are making bookoo-bucks on our statistics without us knowing or getting our fair remuneration.

So the paint company has reacted to my "coverage" complaint by giving me coupons for two free gallons of paint.  Interesting, I probably wouldn't have bought that brand had they not advertized a feature that didn't play out.  The spent $$$ for the advertisement and then paid me back for the product I bought, because the advertizement was false.  Something is wrong here....

What really happens if the gubmint doesn't put together a budget before the "deadline"? What I expect is that gubmint workers will be sent home or forced to take vacation time.  Gubmint contracts will probably get stop-orders, which means that defense workers will be sent home to use up their vacation.  Does the military take a break from assigned actions?  I don't believe so; they just don't get paid.  Military hospitals and bases don't close.  What should happen?  Not only should Congress NOT be paid for the period, but they should also be FINED.  Every last one of them should lose their job at the next election, because they are NOT doing their jobs!!!  I'll probably be sent on furlough, which won't be any fun.

Georgia Peach
The owner of a golf course in Georgia was confused about paying an invoice, so he decided to ask his secretary for some mathematical help

He called her into his office and said, "Y'all graduated from the University of Georgia and I need some help. If I wuz to give yew $20,000, minus 14%, how much would you take off?"

The secretary thought a moment, and then replied, "Everthang but my earrings."

A knock on the door...
There was a knock on the door this morning.  I opened it to find a young man standing there who said: "I'm a Jehovah's Witness."

I said "Come in and sit down, what do you want to talk about?"

He said, "Beats the shit out of me, I've never gotten this far before."

Your Facebook Page...

So most people would definitely be concerned that an perspective employer would be perusing their Facebook page and altogether web presence previous to hiring.  Suppose you were applying to Facebook, though.  What would you have to do get get noticed and have a chance at getting a job there?  Over a quarter of a million applications are processed yearly by Facebook.  Some people do actually get hired and I wonder what they had to do to get that to happen.  They are not only looking for developers that are self-starters, but those with a cultural fit (i.e heavy social networkers, particularly on Facebook.  I would certainly be concerned with two things, if that were me: 1) How do I get to be on the inside track during the IPO?  and 2) The Social Bubble and how it would affect my job and the value of my stock.

On another note, Facebook is being sued for a cool billion dollars because they allowed a page containing "intifada" [violence against Jews] to stay up long enough to get almost 400,000 "likes".  This is the company that we trust with our most personal information so that they can make money selling copies.   Apparently, their site is too big to keep watch over.  And any page that gets a lot of "likes" isn't one of their candidates for removal.  How much TRUST can you put into Facebook and the people [Zuckerberg] that are "running" things?  Facebook is apparently watching us, but not their own site!!  AND Mark Zuckerberg IS JEWISH!!!

We watched a couple of movies over the weekend which barely justify their mention.  The first, "Little Fockers" was just pretty bad.  The excitement and comedy of the first two movies was lost on this one due to the repetitive nature.  It was as thought we had heard all the jokes previously and knew the punchlines, as well.  The second movie was "Tron :Legacy".  The first movie was hokey by today's standards.  Disney upgraded the special effects tremendously, but it was as though the plot was ignored in order to put more CGI effects.  As an engineer, I usually have numerous questions after watching a movie, because I tend to analyze them for accurate details.  For example: I an [mebbie] understand that Flynn's son returned to Earth(?), but how did the Quorra (the girl program) return to a place she'd never been? This movie presented plenty of fodder for many unanswered questions.  And, they had a preview on the the DVD for the third Tron movie.  Perhaps they are just aiming at a younger and more easily convincing age group.

First Microsoft claims that tablet computers are just a fad, now brace yourself for Windows 8 which will address the processors most commonly used for phones and tablets.  I haven't gotten used to Windows 7 yet.  I guess Microsoft still is reaching for more revenue, since Office has splintered and there is more competition in their other products, as well.

California
Did you know what happened 160 years ago this fall... back in 1850?
California became a state. The people had no electricity. The state had no money. Almost everyone spoke Spanish. There were gunfights in the streets.

So basically nothing has changed except then all the women had real boobs and none of the men held hands.

And that, my friends, is the history lesson for today!
